Much more than a "piano store" - Meridian Music was founded with an eye toward community service, supporting arts and education, in addition to retail sales.
Meridian Music was founded in October 1988 but its roots date back to 1963 when Richard Gigax accepted a position with Steinway & Sons as a District Sales Manager. In 1967 Mr. Gigax came to Indianapolis to run Steinway’s retail establishment: Wilking Music Company. When Steinway decided to sell the business in 1969, Mr. Gigax made the decision to put down roots in Indianapolis permanently and buy Wilking Music. Over the next 12 years the business grew gaining a national reputation for its high standards of professionalism and for the quality of its products, services, and community involvement.
In 1981 Mr. Gigax returned to Steinway as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Several years later he left Steinway and was asked by them to consider opening a new piano showroom in Indianapolis with the same high standards he had insisted upon at Wilking Music. In 1988 Mr. Gigax founded Meridian Music Company: the exclusive showroom for Steinway & Sons pianos in central Indiana. Today, Meridian Music is led by Craig Gigax: Richard’s son. Craig has preserved and continued Meridian Music’s commitment to the community and to its customer base.
