It's Never Too Late To Learn Piano Methods

learn pianoThey say that age is a state of mind and although most of us intrinsically sense that, or have examples from our own lives of individuals who seem to stay "forever young", science is now able to back that statement with concrete evidence. For the past few decades, neuroscientists  believed that once nerve pathways in our brains were completely formed, usually during our teenage years, they couldn't be repaired or developed anew. Now, however, high tech brain imaging has proved that the brain is able to form new pathways and repair old ones.

Interestingly enough, some of the evidence used to support these findings was acquired through experiments using piano methods with individuals new to learning piano. So if you want to learn piano, but find yourself thinking or saying, "I'm too old...," think again!

It's good for the mind

Studies have shown that retirees who learn to play piano and continue for at least ten weeks, show a marked improvement in three areas: depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Practicing piano methods gives you a discipline, a self-esteem boost as you watch your musicianship improve, and an emotional connection with any piece of music you have always wanted to learn to play.

It's good for the body

Piano methods combine intricate hand eye coordination through the mental exercises of learning theory and analyzing musical compositions. By practicing piano scales, your fingers will slowly gain dexterity which can ease stiff aching joints while doing something enjoyable.

learning pianoLearning to read music keeps the brain nimble in multiple ways as it involves tracking both rhythm and melody. There aren't very many daily activities that involve both hands, all ten fingers, one foot, and every part of your brain!

It's good for the soul

Psychologists have long known that music and therapy can go hand in hand. Music is able to bring out and expose raw human emotion, and can be used to help soothe and calm an agitated psyche. Beginning to learn piano methods means that you can learn to express yourself through a myriad of musical compositions. You may experience an emotional connection to a piece you have never heard before as you learn to play.

It's never too late to take piano and music lessons and begin learning piano methods. It is a rewarding way to feel a sense of accomplishment while learning to perform beautiful music. There's never a better time than the present.
